In our Social Care Program, we help seniors utilize technology to become better involved with their friends, family, and their local community at large.
Whether it’s connecting with Facetiming with grandchildren on social media or connecting with friends on Facebook, technology can enhance a senior’s quality of life and help them age in place more easily.

- A 2018 Gallup poll found that the number of adults aged 65+ with active Facebook accounts has doubled in recent years.
- Researchers at Oregon Health and Science University in Portland, Oregon found that seniors who used video chat apps (Skype, Facetime, etc.) had half the probability of depressive symptoms that those who didn’t.
- A 2016 study found that seniors who use social technology are less lonely.
How We Teach Port Orchard Area Seniors
During our elderly home care, we teach our clients a variety of different ways to use technology beneficially. For example, we teach our seniors how to use the video chatting software Facetime and Skype. We also teach them other skills such as using a cell phone, texting and creating a Facebook account. Through these skills, we strive for our seniors to stay more connected with their beloved communities and enhance the quality of their lives.
The National Institute on Aging found that social interaction has a positive correlation with overall health in seniors. For example, an increase in socialization can lead to a decrease in blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, and osteoporosis. When you emphasize a senior’s social needs, the benefits reflect through their mental health as well as their physical health.
